THE MAHARAJAH COMMISSION

Rising out of the suburban hells that litter Selangor Darul Ehsan and two bands that crashed and burned in the mid 1990s, three Subang Jaya natives joined forces with a stranger from Bangi to form the Maharajah Commission in 2000. Although various members came and went for their noisy improvisational live shows, the core of the band remained and released the album "Dialogue Amoreaux" in 2003. Phrases like "Pink Floyd being battered by Sonic Youth", " deconstructionist rock" and "Americana rock'n'roll gone to the dogs" have been used to described their sound. So if you like to exercise your ear drums, they're your cup of tea.

AUBURN

Once upon a star, in the year 2007 anno domini... The mysterious entity known as "@uburn" continued afoot on a musical and artistic journey begun seven years ago by Alvin Aadam (drums) and Izuan Shah (guitars/voices). Their path was significantly enlightened by the luminous duo of guardian @ngels, Nor Hanafi (guitars, also of the band, Estranged) and Izzat Uzaini (bass, also of Neo Medicus). Together the four pledged their energies and talents to premiere the latest incarnation at a peculiar yearly rock festival Rock The World 7, before forging ahead with a stream of live performances to make for a positive jumpstart to the year. Their music? A bewitching alternative rock amalgam of earthy and interstellar rock sounds. Their performance? Has been known to draw nicknames from "avenging angels of rock" (onstage, in the flesh) to "just short of modern rock's holy liberators" (on tape, being their usual unremarkable selves). And their look? Relative. Five months into the stellar seventh musical year, the arrival and inclusion of the young cherub, Hashir Haizal (age: 21 years, also of: E.V.O.L. & The Otherside Orchestra, position: synths, samples, beats and loops, noises, sound efx, random voices & the aural kitchen sink), served to further enhance their work and mystify listeners & loyalists of the band - The @uburn @ngels, who lie in secret, from the northern Thai hills, across the tropical pyres of Malaya, thru to the southern coast of the Lion City. This belief & trust they acquired, on the energy of their last recorded release, Karya, released in the year 2005. The members of @uburn and the @ngels have only begun to acknowledge that their debut full-length record has been overdue and now resolve to deliver come year's end...

SHOCK SYSTEM

Shock System is one hell of a misunderstood band. I’ve heard some kids dismissing them as a posey Korn-wannabe or something equally dire. I find that really unfortunate, if not preposterous. Shock System is a powerful band through and through, and if you know the people in the band like I do, you’ll dismiss the talk immediately. Granted, I’m not into their style of music at all but credits are due to the band for forging ahead with a nary a thought to what some people are saying behind their backs. They just move on away from the negative noise and do their own thing. Playing a mixture of metallic hardcore, heavy but groovy breakdowns, slight rap-rock elements and soaring modern rock/grunge bits, Shock System is pretty hard to pin down. The band not only mixes it all up but also very progressive in its collective vision, always working for something a bit different from the rest of the herd. Not only that, but the band also plays and sings well, singer Xumb has huge pair of lungs and he can roar with the best of them. In short, the band delivers, tight and full of might. It’s not like a bunch of talent less airhead dudes trying to ape MTV’s hardcore. One thing which is always forgotten in the juvenile melee of the local scene politics is the fact that Shock System is a political band with members that were and are involved with the more activist end of the scene’s spectrum. These are dudes with conscience and thoughts, always applied hands-on.
